Head of Hotel Management
Belgian Fries and homemade ice cream production in his family business in Belgium, was the inspiration and start of the exciting and illustrious journey into culinary and hospitality for Michel. A 4-year apprenticeship in the kitchens of one of the great Master Chefs of Belgium, eventually led to owning and operating his own restaurants in his native country.
The opportunity to join Hilton International and travel the world as a culinary professional led to an illustrious career in hospitality, which spanned over 40 years, with assignments in numerous Middle Eastern destinations, Asia and Guam USA. Stepping away from Executive Chef positions to overall management, led to the transfer to Sri Lankan as the Manager of the Joint Venture between Hilton Worldwide and the developers of the World Trade Center in Colombo, to head the development plans for the multiple restaurants and concepts envisioned. Michel went on to acquire the JV, develope and operate the brands; “Deli Market Restaurants”, “Deli Cafes & Bakeshops”, “Vista Banquets & Conference”, “Executive Business Suites”, at the World Trade Center Sri Lanka.
Joining VC Villas and Resorts initially as a Consultant to develop the restaurant, kitchen concept and design for Southlake Resort, a close relationship was formed with its visionary Chairman, Dasantha.
In order to support the Chairman’s long-term strategy and vision for the company, with expansions continuing in the niche space of boutique hotels with less than 25 rooms, prompted Michel to accept the challenging responsibility as Head of Hotel Management for its portfolio.
An avid F1 enthusiast, complimented by a keen interest in food, wine and travel, one could say, sums up Michel Saelen.
